WHAT WE DO

WE ARE WORKING TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF SCENERY AND LANDSCAPING ALONG THE QEII

The Foundation is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization formed for the sole purpose of beautifying the entrance to the Capital Region.

We are a registered charitable organization with the Canada Revenue Agency (Registration #: 80462 5317 RR001)

For some time now the Capital Gateway Beautification Foundation has had discussions with local municipalities and the Alberta Government. Our meetings and discussions regarding the QEII Highway right-of-way have been extremely beneficial to our project and the Foundation’s objectives. Further down you will discover these objectives.

On November 1, 2016, we received written approval for the Capital Gateway Beautification Foundation to begin planting trees and shrubs in 18 locations between the City of Leduc and the Nisku Overpass in the QEII corridor right-of-way. These locations and planting designs are included below.

We have budgeted $87,000 for each of the 18 locations. The budget includes purchase of planting material, installation, and two years of maintenance. It will be a great start for the Capital Gateway Beautification Foundation’s goals.

Our Objective

Our immediate objective is to raise enough money to plant at least four sites in 2018 at a cost of $348,000. The Foundation will be exploring various avenues to seek improvement.  Discussions will occur with various municipalities to seek bylaw changes and improved design standards.  The Foundation will also meet with property owners along the corridor, encouraging them to enhance the visual appearance of their own premises in some standardized or coordinated fashion.

In addition, the Capital Gateway Beautification Foundation proposes to raise funds which may allow it to landscape specific areas and to acquire some lands along the corridor with a view to beautifying those lands to a high standard.  This will also increase awareness of the project.
